Terms of use

Freebies connects a member who no longer needs something with a member who does. We are not the giver, the receiver, a shop or a courier. We do not own, inspect, store or deliver any item, and we are not a party to the arrangement between members.

You must be at least [add minimum age] years old and able to enter into an agreement. One account per person. Keep your sign-in details to yourself; you are responsible for what happens on your account.

You appear to other members as a handle, a nickname and a generated avatar. Do not impersonate another person or organisation, and do not use a handle that contains someone's phone number, email or legal name.

We may reclaim a handle that impersonates someone, is offensive, or is used to mislead.

When you list an item you confirm that:

• it is yours to give away and is genuinely free;
• your description and condition are honest, including faults;
• your photo shows the actual item, where you add one;
• it is safe, legal and in working order for its stated condition.

You may withdraw a listing at any time before a request is accepted. Once you accept a request, do your best to honour it.

Do not list:

• weapons, ammunition or explosives;
• drugs, medicines, supplements, alcohol or tobacco;
• stolen, counterfeit or recalled goods;
• live animals or people;
• hazardous chemicals, fuel, gas cylinders or items that leak;
• adult material, or anything that is illegal in Ghana;
• used items where hygiene or safety makes reuse unsafe, for example used mattresses, opened cosmetics, expired food, baby car seats or cots with unknown history;
• anything offered in exchange for money, work, favours or another item.

We may remove any listing, at any time, without notice.

Freebies is free to use and items are free to receive. Nobody should ask you for money for an item, for “delivery”, for a “reservation deposit” or for anything else. If someone does, do not pay: report them from the conversation. Where a member arranges a courier, that is their own arrangement with the courier, and never a payment to the other member.

A giver chooses who receives an item and is not obliged to accept any request. When a request is accepted, a private chat opens so both sides can agree the details.

Items change hands in one of two ways: the giver drops the item at a handover point, such as a police or fuel station, for the receiver to collect, or the item is delivered. Freebies is built so you do not have to meet anyone or share your home address. We suggest busy public places in daylight, but the choice, and the risk, is yours.

Do not share phone numbers, emails or addresses in messages. Keep arrangements inside Freebies so there is a record if something goes wrong.

• Be courteous. No harassment, threats, hate speech or discrimination.
• No spam, advertising, recruiting or reselling of items you received here.
• Do not collect or publish other members' personal details.
• Do not misuse the service, scrape it, or try to break its security.

You keep ownership of what you post. By posting, you give us permission to show it in Freebies and to display it in places where we promote the service. You confirm you have the right to share it, including any photo you upload.

Freebies is a noticeboard, not a chaperone. We do not check members, items or places. We do not run background checks, we do not inspect what is given away, and we have no agreement with any police station, fuel station or other location shown in the app.

Handover points come from public map data. Showing one is not a recommendation, an endorsement or a promise that it is safe or open, and anything we suggest, such as meeting in a busy public place in daylight, is advice rather than a guarantee.

You decide where and how to hand something over, and you are responsible for your own safety. Use your judgement, tell someone you trust where you are going, and stop if something feels wrong. In an emergency, contact the police. Report anything worrying to us from the listing or the conversation.

Items are given as they are, with no warranty of any kind from the giver or from us. We do not check items, members or listings in advance. Inspect anything you collect before you use it, and take extra care with electrical items, tools and anything used by a child. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss, injury or damage arising from an item, an arrangement between members, or a failed handover.

You can report a listing or a conversation from inside Freebies. Depending on what we find, we may remove content, warn a member, or suspend or close an account, and we may report serious matters to the police. If we close your account you may not create another without our agreement.

We may change, pause or withdraw features, and the service may be unavailable from time to time. We do not promise uninterrupted access. You may stop using Freebies and delete your account at any time in Sign-in and security.

These terms are governed by the laws of Ghana, and the courts of Ghana have jurisdiction. If we change them we will update the date at the top and tell members of significant changes in the app. Questions go to [Add your support contact email]. Privacy is covered separately in our privacy policy.
